At this month's Chicago Auto Show, Ford announced they will be adding four new SUV nameplates to the lineup. If you thought the Ford Explorer, Ford Edge, Ford Escape, and Ford Expedition were enough... think again!

According to Business Insider, expanding an already popular SUV lineup is a sound strategy. The SUV and crossover market is growing, as more and more families shun the sedan. Ford promises to sustain the diversity of their model lineup, but we are definitely moving into the era of the SUV.

Why the change?

Thanks to fuel-saving technology like Ford EcoBoost, SUVs no longer have the drawback of poor economy. Even larger three-row SUVs, which are less efficient, look more appealing as gas prices fall.

We also suspect some (if not all) of these new models will be hybrid or electric vehicles. No details yet from Ford.
