Educators, advertisers, fitness companies, and everyone in between has started using a concept called "gamification" to help improve results. The idea is to apply concepts that make video games so fun and addictive to real-world scenarios.
That's why many companies offer rewards cards -- buy this many cups of coffee, and get a coffee free! People enjoy seeing progress as they make those purchases, and look forward to the reward, just like players anticipate leveling up a character.
Ford has been making fuel-efficient driving more fun, too, by gamifying it.
Just about every hybrid model, like the Fusion Energi, released in the past several years has come with Efficiency Leaves. The leaves grow like a beautiful digital garden on your dash as you drive the hybrid efficiently. Waste too much fuel by speeding, accelerating too hard, etc., and the leaves begin to die. You start losing progress in the game! No!
